GREEN TIPS

Sustainable Design as the New Norm

The design world is a much different place today than only a decade ago. Design
solutions are now developed faster, better, and most importantly --- greener.

Green consciousness has pervaded almost every aspect of design. As a result,
high design and sustainable design are no longer competing agendas.

Over the past few years, the marketplace’s demand for environmentally friendly
products has exploded, resulting in an abundant array of new green tools for our
design toolbox. Paints and coatings with lower volatile organic compounds (VOCs),
a growing array of materials with recycled-content, and innovative lighting options
that consume as much as 75 percent LESS energy, have become readily
available for designers and specifiers.

The challenges of continuously evolving a sustainable design practice are grounded
in commitment and innovation. Through our commitment, we must acknowledge
the fact that buildings consume 45% of the world’s energy and designing buildings
to reduce that consumption is simply the right thing to do. Through innovation, we
focus our attention on design strategies that work, all the while, peering into the future
for new and imaginative solutions.

As the sustainable design community continues to mature, DBI Architects continues
to play a leading role by expanding our knowledge, encouraging innovative use of
space, and pushing for purposeful design on each and every project.
