The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) headquarters in Washington, DC was recently honored with a 2017 NAIOP DC|MD Award of Excellence for Best Interiors (10,000-25,000 SF). NAIOP DC|MD, a leading industry organization for developers, owners, and related professionals in office, industrial, retail, and mixed-use real estate, has held the Awards of Excellence since 2002 to honor outstanding achievement in commercial and industrial real estate throughout the DC and Maryland region. DBI’s design objective for the AWEA offices was to showcase the Association’s passion for wind energy and to create a variety of work settings that accommodate employees’ different work styles. In addition, this 15,000-SF space achieved LEED Gold® certification by selecting sustainable materials and reusing design elements from the demolition of the previous space, including doors, glass, mechanical devices, lighting, and ceiling tiles. DBI congratulates designers Michael Boyer, IIDA, LEED AP, Sarah Gottlieb, Assoc. IIDA, Kaitlin Dyer, LEED AP, and Anne Regan, Assoc. IIDA on their award-winning work. Also, DBI thanks Pam Poisson, AWEA’s CFO and Senior Vice President of Operations, for the opportunity to work on this exciting project!
