When DBI was hired to design the new corporate headquarters for Geoeye, located in Herndon, Virginia, the main objective was for the design to be simple and modern. The neutral palette was chosen to avoid competition with the many satellite images that appear throughout the space. The palette of warm veneers (fumed larch, walnut, and reclaimed chestnut) with taupe/beige carpet and paint contrast with the raw, open plenum and brushed metal ceilings within all the communal spaces. Satellite images as well as blue and green accent walls throughout offer additional visual stimulation while tying into Geoeye’s corporate branding. The design focused on sustainability while incorporating state of the art audio visual technology. All offices face the building’s perimeter with large glass sidelights and clerestory panels, allowing workstations and eco-corridors a closer connection with the outdoors and helping the design achieve a LEED CI Silver rating.

Widely recognized as a pioneer in high-resolution satellite imagery available to public and private sectors, Geoeye’s core values of timelessness, transparency, and a strong knowledge of technology can be seen within the design. The office environment is a complex collection of space types: 75,000SF of private offices (60%) and workstations (40%), a 2,000SF data center, 1,800SF SOCC (Satellite Operations Control Center), 1,000 SF SCIF space, multi-purpose rooms for tutorials and training, dynamic demonstration room, and a 2,000 SF Exterior Enclosure and New Generator Design.
