The Intelligence Community Campus – Bethesda (ICC-B) was recently awarded a 2017 National Award of Merit for Rehabilitation/Renovation/Restoration by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). DBIA, the organization that defines, teaches, and promotes design-build best practices, has hosted the awards to showcase outstanding examples of design-build practices and to celebrate the achievements of design-build teams across the spectrum of horizontal and vertical construction. ICC-B’s design objective was to transform a dated and disjointed campus into a unified central hub. This included developing the design of the building’s main reception, amenity gallery, café, fitness center, market space, credit union, 500-seat auditorium, 500-seat cafeteria, health unit, and office spaces. As Lead Architect for Interiors for the 220,269-SF Centrum Building, DBI teamed with Leo A Daly (Lead Design Architect), AECOM (Architect of Record), and the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company (Contractor) to achieve USACE’s objectives through skillful design, which links the campus’s three existing buildings; creates a consistent and interrelated architectural style throughout the campus—inside and out; and enhances the site’s landscaping and streetscaping features.

ICC-B has also received awards for design excellence from AIA Virginia, AIA Potomac Valley, the USGBC, and Building Construction + Design.
